PETROCHINA has received the nod of approval from the government to increase capacity three-fold at its small refinery in Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia in north China. An investment outlay of 8.3 bin yuan (US$1.22 bin) is planned to expand the 30,000 bpd refinery to 100,000 bpd while adding other facilities including a 150,000 tpa polypropylene unit. To commence this year, the expansion plan is expected to be executed by 2012.
