THE industry catering to the machinery requirements of "package producing" and "package user" industries is not very old in the country. The Indian industry has been by and large dependent on imports and also constrained by the level of technology. This has raised eyebrows as possible reasons that had affected the growth of the packaging sector in as much as dependence on external resources could not satisfy the optimum needs of the domestic productivity needs and give the best and right performance with respect to domestic technology needs and being compatible to the domestically available packaging materials.
