TATA Group company, Rallis India Ltd, recently opened a new facility to-produce poly ether ketone ketone (PEKK), a high-end application polymer used in the aerospace industry. Rallis will make PEKK on contract basis for US-based Cytec Engineered Materials at the plant situated at Ankleshwar, Gujarat. Rallis, the Rs. 760-crore agrochemical leader, has invested about Rs. 10-crore in the 100-tpa PEKK production facility, and aims to achieve exports worth Rs. 400-crore over five years. PEKK is a low weight polymer that is inherently flame retardant with excellent heat release properties. Cytec supplies PEKK based composites to aircraft manufacturers and the new facility at Ankleshwar is designed to cater to meet the growing demand for PEKK in new generation aircraft.
