FAIR OAKS FROM THE INSIDE OUT

The Fair Oaks Pig Adventure is a growing "destination" for urban dwellers in Chicagoland. Last year, about 80,000 people visited the farm, located 75 miles south of Chicago. The proximity to a vast audience of consumers who are largely unaware of where their food comes from creates a great opportunity to give visitors an up-close and personal view of modern pork production and agriculture.The facility's focus is education—about pork production, the many uses of pigs and what happens to pigs after they leave the farm. A treehouse, ropes course and numerous interactive stations entertain and inform visitors about the industry. Most importantly, they see actual pork production first-hand through the glassed-in viewing area.
