The Starick family - developing survival strategies in a changing world

Walien Starick has spent his whole life on his farm at Kongolia neat Cambiai in the Mallee region of South Australia. Just as he took over the running of the property from his father in 1972, Warren and his wife Elizabeth are now implementing the exitstrategy that will see their son Matthew and his wife Sharon take over the running of the family farming business. The Staricks have progressively expanded the operations of their farms to add to the cropping activities a 25,000 hen layer operation andmore recently a 140 sow piggery. Now the family has 1400 hectares growing wheat and barley and apart from the tough times of drought have been close to self sufficient in production of feed grain for the pig farm and layer unit.
