IRAs science based - but what kind of science?

It may be crying over spilt milk but a number of events recently focused my attention back to the revised Import Risk Analysis conducted by Biosecurity Australia on the importation of pig meat. Despite being conducted during free trade agreement talkswith the US Government, the pig industry was constantly assured that IRAs were purely science based and free from political influence. The net result was a further increase in pig meat imports from the US despite the industry and CSIRO warnings about risks from PMWS and PRRS.
