Working Through Agricultural Competition, Concentration and Integration

Contracting, competition and integration were the main topics addressed during the first USDA and Department of Justice workshop to examine the food and agriculture industries. A series of workshops also will look at antitrust and other regulatory enforcement issues. USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder led this Iowa workshop. More than 600 people attended, including representatives from all industry sectors. Vilsack heralded the cooperation between USDA and DOJ and the renewed focus on agricultural competition and antitrust issues. "You will see an historic era of enforcement that will almost inevitably grow from the partnership," Holder agreed.
