Poultry farming in Nepal

The poultry industry in Nepal has been attracting investors in large numbers. Some of the factors responsible for this are: 1. Poultry unlike other industries require limited land and can use marginal and low fertile areas, which are easily available. 2. The short production cycle in the case of broilers and continuous production after 4 months in layers provides a more regular cash flow than other agricultural enterprises. 3. The large unemployment problem and the initiatives by feed industries and other allied government agencies to invest in them offers cheap labour and vast potential to market the product as exports to Tibet and Bhutan as well as on the domestic market. 4. The change in food consumption pattern in Nepalese society and the present deficit in protein components. 5. The ability of chickens to convert by-product sources into high food value products, like eggs and meat. 6. The easy transfer of technology from other developed countries and their timely application. 7. Innovative individuals from the private sector and veterinarians in the country are working in cooperation to utilise the full potentiality of this industry. 8. The liking of poor people for poultry as cheap meat and choice among rich people as safe meat makes broilers highly popular through out the country.
