Cannon solution for clear coating moulding: providing a technological plus

Clear coating has been a well-known technology for several years, and continues to attract more and more end-users. The application of a transparent, glossy, hard layer of poly-urethane over natural or synthetic materials appeals mostly to the manufacturers of car and boat interior parts, furniture details, and decorative or aesthetic parts in general. The high-gloss transparent layer imparts a "luxury feel" to the moulded piece, allowing for the automated production of desirable decorations for interior trim, replacing manual painting. The chemical component's temperature and pressure control is fundamental for obtaining the repetitive, consistent results, required by the auto makers for the medium-large series of parts destined for "premium class" vehicles. This paper highlights the difficulties of the process and details the proposed technical solutions.
