Where the Netherlands and the UK are concerned, the author failed to find a close correlation between egg production costs and the volume of international trade. Trade in shell eggs or egg products is greatly influenced by relative feedingstuff prices. Jenny Bates, an Economic Adviser at the UK's National Farmers' Union and myself set out to examine developments in the world egg market and in.cross-border trade in the light of differences in grain prices and fluctuations in exchange rates. Although almost all countries engage in a small amount of egg importing and/or exporting, we have concentrated our analysis on North America and the European Union.
