Southeast Asia - an important growth area

Often overlooked because of developments in China, this part of Asia has exhibited marked expansion in the production of chickens, ducks and eggs in the past ten years or so. Assessments of the development of poultry industry in Asia are often coloured by the dominant role played by China, which can obscure the significant changes that have taken place in other areas of the region, such as Southeast Asia. A synopsis of developments since 1990 reveals a doubling of chickenmeat production and some 50percent more eggs. Chicken exports will have trebled, as will have imports. The trade in table eggs is small but it will have doubled in the past ten years or so.
