To investigate some of the interactive behaviours between surfactants,polymers and pigments,a rheological approach was taken.Initially,1.5%(actives)surfactant was added to solutions(30.5% solids)of a styrene-acrylic copolymer;the mixture was aged for 48hrs then measured on a TA Instruments AR 550 rheometer.The purpose of doing this measurement was to see if the addition of surfactant changed the rheological properties of the polymer solution.The control formulation incorporated an equivalent amount of water as a blank'additive'.
