Return of furniture manufacturing could boost wood coatings

The OEM wood coatings market in North America consists of two segments - flat stock and furniture/ fixtures/cabinets. While both involve in-plant application of coatings on to wood substrates, the characteristics of each are quite different from one another. The one thing they do have in common is higher growth rates for waterborne and UV-cured coatings compared to solvent-based systems, due to the introduction of stricter regulatory requirements. However, the flat stock segment is already dominated by waterborne technologies, while furniture and cabinet makers continue to prefer solventborne coatings.
