This study investigates the influence of nylon-6 (PA-6) and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) alloy/clay nanocomposites on the properties of the flame-retardant (FR) poly(propylene). Cone calorimetry and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques were used to investigate the effect of PA-6 and EVA alloy nanocomposites on the fire properties and dispersion of intumescent flame-retardants (IFRs). The experimental results show that PA-6 and EVA alloy nanocomposites improve the fire and mechanical properties of the FR poly(propylene). It is also shown that the improvement of the properties mainly depends on the weight ratio of PA-6 and EVA in the alloys. The probable mechanisms are discussed in this paper.
