There are a number of issues that restrict the use of adhesives in the construction industry. Firsdy bonding must be possible during the winter, ie at low ambient temperatures (eg 5-10°C). Early stage mechanical properties depend on network development, based on the curing temperature and time, and taking into consideration gelation and vitrification processes. However, low curing temperatures tend to retard network development, and longer curing times are required for full performance to be realised. A second issue is the long term performance of the structural adhesives when exposed to environmental conditions.
