Silane-terminated polymers are increasingly used as raw material components for coatings, adhesives, sealing materials etc. Most of the commercially available products are derived from polyethers, which introduce susceptibility to UV degradation to the final product. It is argued here that there is a need for silane-terminated polymers of useable viscosity with improved UV stability and weatherability. This patent focuses on the formation of silane-terminated polycarbonate-polyester copolymer polyols. Details are given concerning synthesis of polycarbonate polyols, polyesters, polyester polycarbonate copolymers (via a transesterification process), hydrosilylated polyether (via the hydrosilylation of a vinyl-terminated polyetlier in the presence of Karstedt's catalyst) and the isocyanate-capped hydrosilylated polyether, which is then coupled with the polycarbonate polyester copolymer polyol to give the desired silane-terminated polymers.
