Nitrones are 1,3-dipolar compounds (with 4π electrons) that will readily undergo cycloaddition reactions with suitable unsaturated compounds, such as alkynes, alkenes and isocyanates, without need for an initiator or heavy metal catalyst. Carbon-bridged polynitrones have featured in patents before (eg WO 2009 074310), but their synthesis is limited and expensive, due to limited dialdehydes and N-alkyl or N-arylhydroxylamines commercially available. This patent describes a series of N-bridged polynitrones, which can react with unsaturated functional polymers, with the structure: R~1R~2C=N~+(O)~-R~3
