Oleic acid-containing (meth)acrylate latices

There is interest in fatty acids (such as oleic acid) into dispersion polymers (both for reasons of sustainability and for obtaining a mix of alkyd and acrylic properties). However, there are a number of challenges to overcome including the introduction of double bonds with sufficient reactivity to participate in the free radical polymerisation process and the ability of the monomer to move through the aqueous phase from monomer droplets to the polymer particles where polymerisation is taking place (without introducing weakness in the final coating).
