Thermoplastic latex polymers typically have a low performance levels, because a low Tg polymer system is necessary in order for the polymer latex to form a coating. One way of overcoming this problem is to introduce crosslinking after film formation on the substrate, for example incorporating alkoxysilanes. However, latex particles containing alkoxysilanes functionality are susceptible to premature hydrolysis and intra-particle crosslinking, which will hinder coalescence.
