Reported are two novel cationic initiators (η~6 -diphenylmethane) (η~5-cyclopentadienyl) iron hexafluorophosphate (PhCH2PhFe~+CpPF6~_) and (η~6 -benzophenone) (η~5-cyclopentadienyl) iron hexafluorophosphate (PhCOPhFe~+CpPF6~-). (PhCH2PhFe~+CpPF6~-) has been produced by synthesis with ferrocene and diphenylmethane while the (PhCOPhFe~+CpPF6~) has been obtained by oxidation of the diphenylmethane-cyclopentadienyl iron salt. The cationic efficiency has been studied in real time spectroscopy. The results show that both initiators are capable to induce cationic photopolymerisation with long UV wave length light. (PhCH2PhFe~+CpPF6~-) has shown higher efficiency than Irgacure 261 and (PhCOPhFe~+CpPF6~-). Differential scanning calorimetry showed that both initiators have good thermal stability in the absence of UV light.
