Optical microscopy and small angle X-ray scattering have been employed to determine the phase behaviour of the blend of SO3H-terminated polystyrene with poly(n-butyl acrylate-co-N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) containing 6% n-butyl acrylate-co-N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate. The miscibility is strongly improved by the hydrogen bonds between the SO3H and the tertiary amino groups. The two phase region is split into two regions around the stoichiometric composition, in which the ratio of SO3H and tertiary amino is 1:1 by mol. At a stoichiometry of 1, the composition forms a block copolymer like aggregate.
