Functional end group polymers via nitroxide mediated polymerisation

This patent describes the preparation of new end-functionalised (co)polymers by adding a functional vinyl-type monomer (with a hetero atom attached to the vinyl group, eg vinyl ether) to a living radical polymerisation system either during or after completion of the polymerisation. Although various living radical polymerisation types are mentioned, clearly the preferred type of polymerisation is nitroxide mediated polymerisation (and a number of initiators are mentioned in the patent). Further a wide range of possible end-groups are listed and means of obtaining functional end groups.
