摘要

The effectiveness of nanoparticles in improving the mechanical,barrier or themal,stability properties of polymers appears to be dependent on the compatibility of the inorganic component with the organic media,which comprises the degree of dispersion of the inorganic component (eg the exfoliation of clays) and the strength of the chemical interactions between inorganic and organic components.In an attempt to produce a dual nanocomposite,an imidazolium surfactant-modified polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) has been used as an organic modifier for montmorillonite,and improved thermal stability is reported.Also in this issue,hydroxyl-functional silsesquioxanes,reported previously,have been used to produce carboxylic acid-functional silsesquioxanes that may find use in crosslinkable systems.
