The polymers of the coatings are deposited via chemical vapour deposition and comprise one or more functional groups that exhibit region-selective bonding providing stable immobilisation of target molecules and/or ligands and can create biofunctional surfaces having a wide range of applications.Such polymers including poly-xylylenes have functional groups such as azides or alkynes.
