摘要

There continues to be considerable interest in the performance properties of nanocomposites of various types. One of the key issues is the compatibilisation and integration of the nanoparticles into the binder media with optimal dispersibility (and reducing the level of aggregation) in order to optimise the level of performance. This has prompted research into methods of functionalising the nanoparticles or producing in-situ nanoparticles. Reported in this issue, a silica nanocomposite with a strong silica network is prepared by the sol-gel process. By functionalising the sidewalls of carbon nanotubes with vinyl groups, it is reported possible to integrate the carbon nanotubes into an acrylic resin by in-situ polymerisation with methyl methacrylate.
