Azo-containing acrylates have been submitted to microwave irradiation during the atom transfer radical polymerisation to obtain functional polymers. The reaction had a high speed, reducing the time from several days to 1 hour when compared to conventional heating. N,N,N',N",N",-pentamethyldiethylenetriamine and ethyl 2-bromoisobutyrate exhibited the highest reaction speed.
