A new co-crystallised tri-metallic nickel(II) complex: bis(Delta,Lambda-bis(ethylenediamine-N,N ')bis(thiocyanato)-nickel(II))-Delta,Lambda-tris(ethylenediamine-N,N ')nickel(II)-hexafluorophosphate

The title compound, [Delta,Lambda-Ni(en)(2)(NCS)(2)](2)[Delta,Lambda-Ni(en)(3)][PF6](2) (1) (en = ethylenediamine) has been synthesised via a molecular rearrangement reaction of trans-Ni(en)(2)(NCS)(2). 1 consists of [Ni(en)(2)(NCS)(2)](2) (1a), [Ni(en)(3)](2+) (1b) and [PF6](-) (1c) molecular units in a 2:1:2 ratio, such that both 1a and 1b crystallise in an ordered racemic sequence of A and A chiral units. Extensive intermolecular hydrogen bonding:is observed between amine protons of the en chelate rings and the fluorine atoms of the [PF6](-) counteranions, as well as between the amine protons and sulfur atoms of the NCS ligands.
