Calcium Carbonate in Polyolefines

Here,we describe important applications of calcium carbonates in LDPE/LLDPE,HDPE and PP and discuss the processing steps necessary and the mechanical properties of the finished products containing calcium carbonate.1.Introduction Mineral modifiers offer polyolefine processors a wide range of options for economically improving the properties of their products.Mineral modifiers are usually powders,but polyolefines are supplied in the form of granules.Therefore,minerals such as calcium carbonate,talc or mica must first be dispersed in the polymer by a compounding process,and are so converted into a redispersible form.Compounding costs about Euro 100 to 250 per tonne.Thus the use of minerals does not always lead to lower formulation costs,but nevertheless often pays off because of the additional technical benefits the minerals provide.
