BMC for automotives

By having introduced a bulk moulding compound (BMC) for the automotive market,formulator and manufacturer of thermoset moulding compounds IDI Composites International has opened up new areas for the material.Due to its dimensional stability during long-term exposure to heat and vibration,BMCA103 facilitates injection moulding of high-intensity discharge (HID) and traditional automotive headlamp assemblies.It also exhibits low emissions under high heat,which is critical for headlamp reflectors that use the vacuum metallisation process causing metal blistering and device failure.Unlike thermoplastics,the new BMC will not degrade under the high heat generated by HID lamps.Parts made from A103 are said to be lightweight,fog-resistant,corrosion-resistant and creep-resistant,besides displaying improved strength-to-weight ratios.
