Debate continues in Russia about banning large PET beer bottles

Sibur, the giant Russian petrochemicals and polymers producer, has joined the debate over a proposed ban on beer sold in plastic bottles in Russia aimed at curbing alcoholism there.The group has opposed a call from Russian legislators for tight new restrictions on the packaging of beer in PET bottles, according to Russian online media reports. Moscow-based Sibur's chief executive Dmitriy Konov reportedly criticised the state for inconsistency in promotion of its policy of import substitution. He pointed to proposals to limit the use of PET packaging for beer bottling which would restrict the growth of Russia's domestic plastics industry.
