Populism, nationalism, protectionism, terror attacks in Europe, no end to the wars in the Middle East and rising amounts of waste in the ocean. From a political perspective, 2016 was a bad year. But beyond the shocks embodied by Brexit and Trump, the government crisis in Italy, the political changes in Poland and the unrest in Turkey, a few positive new items also emerged throughout the year - both for the world as a whole and for the plastics industry in particular.
