Federal Rail Safety Bill Would Require Inspections,Safely Equipment for Workers

Rail carriers hauling hazardous materials would have to perform rail inspections and provide additional safety equipment to workers under federal rail safety legislation passed by the House of Representatives Oct.17.The Federal Railroad Safety Improvement Act of 2007 (H.R.2095),which passed by a vote of 377-38,would require rail inspections to ensure there is,no more than one defect per 10 miles of track along high-risk corridors.Those corridors are defined as having significant movements of hazardous materials or where commuter and intercity passenger railroads operate.
