European market to grow by 2% per year / Pd Films study

Europe's flexible packaging market is forecast to expand by an average of 2% per year to EUR 14.2 bn in 2019, up from EUR 12.9 bn in 2014, helped by rising growth in eastern Europe, says a new report from PCI Films Consulting (Guils-borough / UK; www.pcifilms.com). While annual growth in western Europe is forecast at about 1.8% over the five-year period, growth in eastern Europe is forecast at 2.8%, PCI says. Consumption in eastern Europe is, however, currently constrained by a growth slowdown in Russia and lower demand in Ukraine. The uncertain political and economic outlook in both countries make it difficult to forecast long term trends, says report author, Paul Gaster. PCI's forecast is based on all the above making some recovery after 2016, Russia starting to recover and Ukraine's market stabilising, he notes.
