Plastic bag ban delayed to 1 July/ 'ORPlast' circular economy initiative calls for higher recyclate usage

Under the original scheme, the ban on conventional one-way plastic carrier bags was supposed to go into effect in France's retail industry on 1 January. However, on 1 February the country's environment minister Segolene Royal announced that the new ordinance limiting the use of plastic carrier bags will not be implemented before 1 July 2016. She explained the delay by pointing to the fact that both bag manufacturers and the industry in general need more time to make the necessary adjustments - including securing the availability of bio-based and biologically degradable bags.
