'Ultrason' polyarylsulphone capacity in South Korea to double / Investment will narrow the gap to Solvay

In response to global market growth for high performance speciality plastics, BASF (Ludwigshafen / Germany; www.basf. com) is adding a new 6,000 t/y production line for its "Ultra-son" polyarylsulphone at Yeosu / South Korea. The line, due to start up at the end of 2017, will lift capacity in Yeosu to 12,000 t/y and total capability of polysulphone products sold under the Ultrason trademark to 24,000 t/y. This will help narrow the gap to Solvay (Brussels / Belgium; www.solvay.com), the leading producer of sulphone polymers, which, according to PIE's Polyglobe capacity database (www.polyglobe.net), can produce 28,000 t/y.
