At a 16 September press conference in Leverkusen, Marjin Dekkers, CEO at Bayer (Leverkusen / Germany; www.bayer. com), announced that an austerity programme has been drawn up for its subgroup, Bayer MaterialScience (BMS; www.bayerbms.com). "We need to reduce costs and be more efficient," explained Dekkers. The reason for the measures has to do with the ongoing pressure on the BMS profit margins. While he mentioned the programme involves cutting jobs, he would not go into specifics as negotiations are currently underway. Still he did say it has to do with "some small adjustments". Globally, BMS counts 14,500 employees.
