Purchase of German contract compounder PolyComp / Plastics production capacities to be expanded

In early November, engineering plastics distributor K.D. Fed-dersen Holding (Hamburg / Germany; www.kdfeddersen.com), purchased every share of contract compounder PolyComp (Norderstedt / Germany; www.polycomp.de). Feddersen said the two parties have agreed not to disclose any further details. Founded in the 1970s as a masterbatch producer, PolyComp became part of Norwegian energy producer Statoil Group (www.statoil.com) in 1986 and later part of petrochemical producer Borealis, when the Austrian company was founded through the merger of Neste and Stratoil in 1994. Over the years, it evolved into a full-fledged compounder, with more than 50,000 t/y of capacity and a workforce exceeding 50 employees. In a 1999 management buyout, Borealis sold the compounding plant in Norderstedt. Since then, PolyComp has specialised in contract compounding and the licensing of polymer compounds.
