The Chinese New Year mass transit officially came to an end on 6 March, when it was back to normal for business. Official news sources report a record number of travellers during lunar new year 2013 - the Ministry of Transport logged 240m railway trips during the 40-day period trom 26 January to 6 March, while the country's water transport reported 42.5m trips during the period. One outstanding characteristic this year was the growth in medium- and short-distance transport, particularly in the central and western regions of the country, where fast-pace industrial development is attracting a growing number of migrant workers from nearby rural areas.
