EUR 65m investment to upgrade Porvoo PE plant

Austrian chemicals producer Borealis (Vienna; www.boreal-isgroup.com) is to invest EUR 65m in revamping its "Borstar PE2" plant processes at its production site in Porvoo / Finland to third-generation. "Borstar" technology supports the production of a wide range of enhanced PE and PP products and this most recent investment will allow the facility to exploit the technology at a higher level by offering improved product properties as well as a broader operating window, the company said. This could also mean that capacity is being expanded as well. According to PIE's database, Polyglobe (www.polyglobe.net), the current capacity of the line at Porvoo is a combined 255,000 t/y of LLDPE and HDPE.
