Global independent compounder SO.F.TER. (Forli / Italy; www.softergroup.com) is building a new facility in the US, located in Lebanon, Tennessee. In a media release, the company said the site will focus on producing, developing and selling engineering plastics based on polyamide, polypropylene and thermoplastic elastomers appropriate for the US market. The initial investment in the 85,000m2 site is anticipated to be EUR 8.8m and the installed capacity is planned at 23,000 t/y. Construction will at first be limited to 9,300m2. Ideally, the site will be expanded to 23,000m2 and capacity increase to 68,000 t/y, the company said. The North Italian-based company also plans to hire 50 people for the site and then add more than 100 jobs. No timeframe was given for the future expansion, nor for the additional positions to fill.
