Delay requested before decision on plastic bag tax in Scotland/ Code of practice a possibility

The environment committee of the Scottish Parliament (www.scottishparliament.uk)has asked for more time to consider the environmental benefits that would be gained from any tax on plastic carrier bags.It is seeking a deadline of 31 August 2006 for its decision on whether to recommend the proposed bill for debate.The committee has also asked parliament member Mike Pringle,who proposed the bill for a 10 pence levy,to provide more evidence on the environmental impact of a tax and its administrative costs for retailers and local authorities.
