Use of Genetically Modified Crops Expands With Gains in Developing World,Report Says

The use of biotech crops continued to expand at a rapid rate in 2006,reaching 252 million acres of farmland in 22 countries,according to an industry report released Jan.18.The International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA)said plantings of genetically engineered crops increased 13 percent from 2005.The United States continues to be the largest grower with 135 million acres,followed by Argentina,Brazil,Canada,India,China,Paraguay,and South Africa,according to the report.
