Recovery from the slump /Production restricted to the US and Japan I Demand expected to top planned capacity/Producers seek to reduce dependence on E+E segment/Ticona leads
During the 1980s,liquid crystal polymers,or LCPs,were hailed as the new stars on the polymer firmament. This particular vision of the future was one of the reasons why the former chemical group Hoechst paid the then spectacular price of DEM 6 bn in 1986 to acquire US chemical producer Celanese. The 1990s were more or less the "trial run"for the new polymer -only small amounts were used, mainly in E+E applications.
