Pretax profit fell from GBP 12.9m (EUR 17.9m) to GBP 3.7m at RPC Group (Higham Ferrers, Rushden / UK; www.rpc.eu) in the half-year to 30 September 2007, mainly because of a GBP 10.3m restructuring and rationalisation charge resulting from lowering the manufacturing cost base, and pruning the portfolio of operating units. This included the closure of UK injection moulding plants at Thornaby and Hereford as well as the closure of the Bristol Bebo thermoforming operation and the current restructuring of the Bebo business in Poland. Group turnover was up 6.9% in the period and the margins slipped slightly.
