A signof recovery: In its first quarter earnings report, GE Plastics says it ends the quarter with an increase in its order backlog-for the first time in more than a year. Orders for GE Plastics resins are 36% above the previous quarter. However, GE's quarterly report also provides a measure of the severity with which the recession hit the plastics industry. First quarter sales for GE Plastics are still 29% below first quarter of 2001.
