Nissan's ghosn shows how to cut the cost of plastics parts

When Renault purchased a 36.6% equity in then financially-troubled Nissan, it appinted French executive Carlos Ghosn to lead a turnaround. In the January 2002 Harvard Business Review, Ghosn says that he needed to cut costs by 20%, and his strategy for achieving one-third of this was to modify engineering specifications which were stricter at Nissan than at other companies.
