Lavera cracker starts up again following steam leak / FM on European PVC will be lifted in October 2009

Following a shutdown in early September 2009 Ineos (Lyndhurst / UK; www.ineos.com) has begun bringing its cracker in Lavera back on stream. The French facility, with a capacity of 1.24m t/y, had suffered technical problems as a result of a steam leak. Speaking to PIE, an Ineos spokesman said that "the site is bringing plants back on line progressively." In response to a query, a spokeswoman for Arkema (Colombes / France; www.arkema.com) at Lavera said the company is in the process of restarting its VCM and PVC facilities. She was, however, unable to say exactly how long force majeure will remain in effect.
