For producing "cyclic" resins, a 2,500 tonne/yr plant is being built in Brandenburg, Germany, says Cyclics Corp, Schenectady, NY, USA. Start-up is set for early 2004. The plant is being built at the production site of BASF Schwarzheide GmbH which will supply BPT feedstock to Cyclics for conversion into cyclic forms of PBT (polybutylene terephthalate). Cyclic resins process in a liquid state like thermosets but cure into solid thermoplastics that are heat-formable and impact resistant.
