China is becoming a force to be reckoned with in the international plastics market. According to the China Plastics Processing Industry Association (CPPIA; www.cppia.com. en), companies in the People's Republic increased output of polymers by around 18% to 30.7m t in 2007. The country widened its import volume by 5% to nearly 19m t and exports by 52% to 3.8m t. Consumption totalled 45.8m t, a rise of 12% against 2006, whereby processing of polypropylene made remarkable strides, rising 15.8% to 10.1m t.
