Asian petchem sources foresee end of direct Taiwan-China shipping ban

Sydney-Petrochemical industry sources in Taiwan said January 29 they expected an eventual lifting of a longstanding ban on direct shipping between the island and China,as the local political leadership takes a more conciliatory stance on ties with the mainland.The reinstatement of direct air travel and direct shipping to China are high-priority issues in Taiwan's upcoming presidential elections in March,sources said.And,they expect both restrictions to be relaxed in the near future regardless of the election's outcome,as candidates for the ruling and main opposition parties have promised to cultivate friendlier relationships with China.
